Is there a way to add a forecast to this to generate parts shortages?

Adare. In one of your previous question you were asking how to get components into your inventory and how to make a BOM. If you can't get items into your inventory then I think it's a bit soon to be wondering about shortage forecast - or did you manage to answer your previous question? if you did manage to answer you own question then please do go back to that thread and say that

You don't manually add a forecast.

Each item has a minimum quantity and when that wauntity is reached the the item will appear in a shortage report.

The forecast is a different type of report that is generated automatically based on purchase orders, delivery times, work orders and required build dates. But if you have no inventory, no work/purchase orders then you won't see a shortage forecast.

Look at
creating purchase orders
creating work orders

then look in the reports menu - shortage reports

Thanks I was a bit ahead of myself in asking questions. I was able to generated a BOM and have played with many of the features thus far and still have a lot to do yet to understand if this we can use this, I like what I see so far.

As far as forecast I generate a Master Production Plan each Jan for the upcoming year that I get from marketing. I take that information and boil it down to weekly plans so thus I get a demand with plan as its called in JDE, is there a means to do that in this software?

Also is there a means to track lot numbers for components so we can assing WO using FIFO? tracking lot number is very very important for us.

In MiniMRP you can create a work order and give that work order an expected/desired build date. So create work orders for each week or month out into the future.

At that stage MiniMRP won't do anything with the work order except display them to you.
What you can then do is, for example, in the middle of May you put June's work orders into the "Allocated" state. Now MiniMRP will start generating shortage reports/forecast telling you what materials you need to buy and when you need to buy them so that you can complete your work orders on time.
