Topic:   Purchase the assembly or purchase the components?

By: GuestPosted on: Jan 16 2017 at 05:01:33 PM
I have parts P1, P2, P3, P4 that I assemble into A1. Creating this assembly is no problem. But sometimes I purchase the assembly instead. If I fill in the supplier information, it still draws the cost from the components and I want it to get the cost from the supplier info. Do I have to have 2 separate part numbers to provide this option? I would rather go to the assembly and select an option to "make" or "purchase". If I select "make" it uses the assembly information and if I select "purchase" it uses the supplier information.

What do you mean by "draws the cost".

What are you doing with the cost? I mean if you're printing out a stock valuation report then the cost of A1 would be the build cost.

No, you don't need to create two different part numbers to do this. Create a single "part number" item and then toggle it between PART (when you purchase the item from somebody else) and ASSY (for when you build the item from the BOM).

See a more detailed discussion under the thread "ASSY, PART and turn-key ordering" started on May 13, 2016.
