There's a significant delay when opening Minimrp from a network location. In this case it is a Synology diskstation. Not ideal for this kind of application but it should be solid enough for a test. Anyone run into trouble with this kind of thing before? What's an ideal scenario for running Minimrp from a network location?

If the NAS is on the same local network as the client machine then there should not be any significant delay. What kind of delay (seconds) are you talking about.
If however your NAS is exposed to the internet and your client machine is connecting in over the internet then yes. There will be a delay. The 'Standard' MiniMRP database wasn't designed for that kind of remote access. For remote access you should consider using SQL Server where your connection and working speeds should be almost the same if you're working local or remote.
I have heard talk that when v5 comes later this year it will be able to use the MySQL server that is built in to many modern NAS drives and those remote access delays will be almost zero.
