I have an assembly within which I have added a supplier. When I click on the ">" against that supplier I have the option of ticking "Manufactuer" which adds "MRF" against that supplier line.
Is this just a visual aid or is "MRF" taken into account in any calculations/reports?
If it is taken into account in calculations, how?

In that list where you see MFR the 'default' supplier is the one at the top. The default supplier's price etc is the one used to cost the item and assemblies that contain the item.
When looking at a bill of materials there's columns for supplier, supplier's part number and manufacturer and their part number. If those columns aren't visible then go to the 'burger' menu (the button with 3 horizontal bars) and select the option to show/hide columns.
So it isn't just that MFR tag. The manufacturer's name and part number can also appear in Bills of Material.
