Topic: Global search function
|
By: Thomas | Posted on: Nov 16 2017 at 04:33:13 PM | Our stocks serves 2 purposes, 1st is daily assembly management, and 2nd is new development work.
Now, the 1st one works very well, but the 2nd one is in bad need of a global search function, in order to enable the engineers to use parts already in stock.
A bonus would be that assembly staff could also dig in historic facts all in one screen, like part hits, BOM hits, PO hits etc. all in one search (mini-google).
I have already reported this directly to MiniMRP.com, so would just like to try and rally some support for this... :-)

1. "Inventory -> All Components -> By Description" and enter a search using wildcards. For example "*tricorder*"
2. We have placed our parts into about three dozen Categories, so that we may use "Inventory -> Components by Category" to narrow the search.
3. If you know the Supplier's or Manufacturer's part number, then you can use the "Inventory -> All Components" tab then click on a column header to sort. If you don't see the "Supplier PNo." or "Mfr PNo." columns, then use the blue wrench to display them.

However, we know all the tricks you mention in your post.
The idea is to avoid having to use tricks to reach the desired part.

They're standard wildcards that been part of Windows since.. well, since long before Windows was thought of. People who have been using computers for a while, ie KeyBoard rather than icons, use WildCards almost as second nature. Quicker than fiddling with search options.
But. in the next version we're improving the search anyway. There'll just be one textbox for your search criteria/filter which will still accept wild cards but you can also open a little options window where you can select your defaults for the future.
Also notice the ability to 'drag' tabs out of the main window. So I suppose you could do your search and then drag the results out of the main window and put that over to one side of your display while you do other work in the main window - or any number of separate windows if you so wish.
The little buttons across the top of the components window. That's just an option - you can have the big buttons down the side or little ones across the top

We use wildcards all the time, and it works great.... and yes, its been there since anyone can remember. Let's keep it that way!
Your screenshots looks like it is exactly what we need, especially the 'Any column'!
Looking forward to the update! :-)
