Topic: I would like to talk to some users that switched from P&V
|
By: Steve | Posted on: Jan 22 2020 at 03:27:05 PM | Hello. I would like to talk to any users to discuss how well MiniMRP works. Especially anyone who switched from Parts & Vendors. Please e-mail me at

Thank you in advance. | |
By: Ken | Posted on: Jan 23 2020 at 01:56:42 PM | I also would like to be in the loop on this conversation. We are thinking of making the switch soon & are currently doing a trial. Thanks,

By: Scott | Posted on: Jan 24 2020 at 04:36:00 PM | We switched from Parts and Vendors about a year ago. Feel free to reach out and we can connect by phone.

By: Jason H | Posted on: Feb 6 2020 at 02:07:59 PM | I'm in the process of switching over. So far I've put all my P/V data into a SQL database and its looking really good. You can include me in any conversations as well.

By: Debra | Posted on: May 18 2020 at 10:32:56 AM | I was wondering if there is a ECO function similar to the one the extended version of P & V had
By: Guest | Posted on: May 19 2020 at 08:46:09 AM | Never heard of it - Please give a short description of that ECO function?
By: Sage | Posted on: May 20 2020 at 08:29:24 AM | Can anyone add some detail about making this switch? Particularly about importing data from P&V, helpful hints, and pitfalls to avoid. Is there a reason that this discussion didn't happen here, and folks were asking for direct email communication. It would be a really valuable conversation for all of us Parts and Vendor orphans...maybe someone can copy and paste their email conversations in here...
Thanks | |
By: Guest | Posted on: May 20 2020 at 12:42:26 PM | Hey Sage - I guess people aren't talking much about it because it just works.
MiniMRP can 'Restore' a p&v data file. So, simply go to the minimrp backup/restore window. Select "Restore" and a window pops open allowing you to select a minimrp backup file or a p&v data file.
Import/conversion of p&v data into minimrp is fully automatic.

By: Guest | Posted on: May 26 2020 at 01:09:49 PM | RE ECO function. Engineering Change Order. The idea that an item can be unreleased or released. When released, any changes must go through a formal verification process before they can just be changed. That means someone reports a needed change, fills in a form, someone else approves the request, engineering approves the writeup, someone implements it, then it gets approved finally and released and an update to production. While it sounds painful, it means that on a production line, things/assemblies/documents don't get changed without a record.
By: USRobtronics | Posted on: May 26 2020 at 01:31:09 PM | I never used the ECO function. Don't know anyone that did. Once an assembly has been released to production we NEVER change it. So in our shop a procedure for changing an assembly simply isn't necessary.
Obviously things evolve and one day we'll decide to improve an assembly or some component becomes obsolete/unavailable. In this case we still do not change the original assembly - we open/read the original into the assembly editor and select the 'Save As' option and save as a new revision number.
Now we have a brand new assembly identical to the original and can make any changes to this new one. Original remains unchanged.
There's a comments box to describe the changes if necessary and the 'Links' tab to point the new assembly at the new documentation if necessary.
None of that required ECO because the original assembly was never changed.
By: Guest | Posted on: Oct 7 2020 at 01:47:10 PM | I would like to of any advantages or disadvantages of switching from PV. I also have reviewed MRP and it looks good but not sure if there is any reason to switch. I use three licenses so is it worth $600 to change?
By: MitchAtUSR | Posted on: Oct 8 2020 at 02:46:17 AM | Well one good reason is that the company (Trilogy Design) that used to make that old P&V program shut down many years ago. It will never be updated. If you're OK with that then just keep using it.
FYI. If you buy 3 licences for MiniMRP the price is $150 each (total $450) Of course the 'Pro' version is more expensive (still not quite 600) but the Pro version offers capabilities such as SQL Server/MySQL that you never had in P&V anyway so maybe you wouldn't want/need that anyway.
This is starting to sound like a sales spiel. I switched last year. Many things are different in Mini mrp but it works.
By: Bob R | Posted on: Oct 8 2020 at 09:45:14 AM | I am presently evaluating MiniMRP, we have been a P%V user. Last week after a Windows update(I suspect) I could not get P&V to recognize my license. After much fiddling with compatibility settings it finally started working. That was the final straw, P&V is going to be replaced and I think MiniMRP is the best choice. It loaded my complete P&V database just fine and I am connecting through VPN to the company server perfectly. I work remotely. I am having one issue, probably operator error that I will submit as a separate item.
By: Support | Posted on: Oct 9 2020 at 10:20:34 AM | Bob R. Please tell us about your "Operator Error". Even if it is operator error it may be something we can improve on to make it easier ie less likely to occur.
By: Sean | Posted on: Nov 14 2020 at 11:59:19 AM | I've been a P&V user for 20 years. Did the import (restore) process in my trial version. I can't tell if I got all of the data. I do notice that I can only see Purchase orders dating back about 1 year. So it seems incomplete.
Anyone else have such problems when switching from P&V?

By: Sean | Posted on: Nov 14 2020 at 12:16:07 PM | In looking at the Jet DB table. it looks like the records are all there but I'm unable to see them in the list.
I'll keep digging for a filter.
Thanks. | |
By: Sean | Posted on: Nov 14 2020 at 12:20:22 PM | Well... found the "more" button, but it stops at a little over 1500 in the list. Goes back ~8 years but the raw table indicates about 14,000 records.

By: Sean | Posted on: Nov 14 2020 at 12:25:34 PM | Well.. last post.
Trouble solved. all completed purchase orders were founnd in the "Completed Purchase Orders" listing.
Data woes solved.

By: Michael | Posted on: Nov 15 2020 at 06:44:36 AM | Hello Sean.
Yes. All your POs should be there. If the Ordered Quantity is the same as the Receved Quantity then MiniMRP marks that PO as "Complete" and you find it in the list of "Completed" purchase orders.
But you say your Incomplete POs (Those with items still outstanding) goes back back 8 years? Didn't P&V have some way to show you that you have so many incomplete purchase orders?
