Topic: mrp and regional stores inventory
|
By: Guest | Posted on: Mar 8 2017 at 02:41:03 PM | Looking into a problem of regional game store who produces their own product. They have 5 retail stores, production center, and a warehouse. There is no communication except verbal between all sites. Figured a small MRP would help with production, warehouse, purchasing for production. The stores are doing manual inventory counts quarterly. Can a MRP manage the inventory at the retail stores? Or do I need to look into another system for the stores and tie the two together?
By: Guest | Posted on: Mar 9 2017 at 03:30:42 PM | MiniMRP Enterprise Edition can manage inventory in up to 6 separate locations. So, the same item can exist in 6 different places and the quantity in each location is managed separately.
It can also manage Purchase Orders, Customer/Sales Orders and assembly/product WorkOrders in different locations as well.
Main problem you'll have in getting this working is the technical issues of connecting (networking) your sites together.
One way to do it would be to decide that one of your sites is the main one and in that location install MS SQL Server. (The free SQL Express from Microsoft is just fine so no need to spend a lot of money on server software)
Then. Open #1 is to make sure that main site has a fixed internet IP address and use PortForwarding to forward all incoming SQL traffic to the SQL Server machine. Some people don't like exposing their SQL Server to the internet like that but use strong passwords and a non-standard 'Port Number' and you'll be OK. It's basically what Microsoft (Azure) and Amazon(AWS) do anyway.
or. Option #2. Create a VPN (Virtual private Network) where remote users/sites are authenticating to the domain and, once 'inside' they can connect to SQL Server.
If the above doesn't make sense just show this page to your computer guy and he'll have no problem setting it up.
