Topic: New Components on POs
|
By: SteveT | Posted on: Jul 31 2025 at 10:19:42 AM | Hi
I have my employees marked down as "read only" for components because I don't want them creating or editing them as this is controlled by another department.
But I recently found someone discovered a loop hole. When using "Select Items" in Purchase Orders, they were still able to select "NEW ITEM", which has given them the ability to create new components.
The problem with this is that we have tightly controlled revisions of components, and by using this "NEW ITEM" feature on the PO they have accidently ordered an old revision, not having used the existing one which shows the latest revision.
Can it be fixed so that the "NEW ITEM" option in the Purchase Orders "Select Item" menu is hidden or locked when someone is marked as "Read Only" or "None" for Components?
Also, are updates automatic or do they have to be downloaded or managed through the program somehow?

If I download and install the latest version, will I have to re-enter my licence key? Or a username/password? And if so, where do I find this information because we have used this for 3 years now and I don't seem to have kept a record of everyones licence keys/usernames/passwords.

To answer your question about versions. If you have the v5 standard version 5 and you install any standard v5 revision, so, ie v 5.0.1 to 5.9.999 then you will not be required to re-enter your licence key. But if you currently have a 'standard' version and you install a 'Pro' version then you will need a 'Pro' licence key. This is something I need to add to our 'ToDo' list for a future update.
In the meantime all I can suggest is that you ask your users not to use that loophole.
But you can always email us for advise on licence keys - recovery of keys etc.
