The longest PO Number that we have used is 17 characters.

In the setup at the very bottom of the main menu there is the option to enter number manually or to have the program auto-increment. There you can enable auto-numbering and set the starting number.
If the PO number is a short number such as "12" then the program pads it out to "0012". But longer numbers are allowed.
