Is it possible to expand the search bar, there are many cases the looking for an item by its part number is not possible.
will love to see that change.

If you're talking about searching within the big 'All Components' data grid - just click the column header of any column to see sort/search/filter options. You can use that to search on any column.
Or have I misunderstood your question?

IMO, Would be good if it was in the BOM Insert Item dialog.
