Topic: Short(ened) Supplier Name
|
By: Leo | Posted on: Feb 8 2021 at 12:07:50 PM | Hi,
I just upgraded from v4 to v5 and when I went to print out an assembly I noticed that the Supplier column is no longer using the shortened/abbreviated Supplier name (Code/Ref in the Supplier entry)
Is there some setting I am missing. I tried making the column more and more narrow, but it just kept making the supplier name take up more and more rows on the physical print out.

The change to the longer name was because so many people asked for it. In fact it's probably the #1 thing that people complained about in v4. So, in v5, we decided to switch to the long/full name.
But you are correct. I think we should add another column so you'll have the option of short or long names (or none)

This would be a "nice to have" feature that we would use. When printing BOMS for internal use, we prefer the vendor's short name in order to permit more space for other columns. When sending BOMs to our customer as a part of a documentation package, we prefer to see the vendor's long name to avoid ambiguity.

Hope you can add that option.
We only use printouts for in-house assemblies and my choices at this point are to go edit all the suppliers to nice short names, or to go back to v4, as the long names literally make our sheets take up roughly 3x the number of rows. Some of our assemblies were already 5 pages long at single line spacing, obviously that would get out of hand real quick at 3x the rows, lol.
Thanks for filling me in!
