Does the standard version support multiple users accessing the database file at the same time or is the professional version required to do that.

The standard version supports multiple users at the same time.
This is via a share data file that works very well when all users are on the same local network.
if you have remote users connecting over slow mobile networks then you might need to consider using one of the SQL Server variants for your data server and, in this case, you would need the Pro version.
