While I understand that you could potentially buy an item from the Manufacturer directly and that potentially makes them a Supplier, I find that listing the Manufacturer as a Supplier in the Inventory/Suppliers list is confusing .
I would really like to be able to turn off that feature or just choose to display (filter) the Suppliers that I have set up in the database as per my Contacts.

That manufacturer thing is quite a new feature. Prior to that I used the 'Custom Fields' to store manufacturer name and mfr part number etc.
We have so many parts with the manufacturer data in the custom fields that we just continue to use that method.
So if you don't like the manufacturer being bundled in with suppliers then just don't use it at all. Just use custom fields.
