By: Guest | Posted on: Sep 14 2020 at 04:29:09 AM | Did I have VAT if I, the user, is outside of the EU or US?

You did not say which country you were in.
Many countries around the world have TAX agreements with each other. Those arrangements mean that they must charge VAT/Sales tax on cross border sales.
If you enter our checkout - at this stage you're just looking so not committing to placing an order - the checkout ought to detect your country, language and currency. It will display the amount of VAT/Sales tax.

I am providing the VAT number in the billing information and ticking "The Recipient or Licensee is the same as the Purchaser", but the total to be paid still includes VAT. Why is that?

Maltese VAT number is 8 digits but on international transactions it needs to be prefixed with the eu country code 'MT'
Enter MT followed by the 8 digit number. Fill in the rest of the data including the company name and go to the "Review Order" page and the final total when you checkout should just be the total without VAT.
If for some reason you do still end up paying the VAT then don't worry. Just contact us with the Valid vat number and we'll refund the VAT quickly.
You could also just email us the VAT number and your company name and we'll run a check to make sure they match in case you're using the wrong company name, miss-spelling or something.
