The is the 'Indented, multi-level view of the assembly we created on the previous page. The indented 'Levels' column appears when the assembly contains sub assemblies.

In our example items 13 to 17 are indented to the right at level 2 indicating that they are contained inside item 12. Item 12 is a Sub Assembly. But you'll see that items 18, 19 and 20 are indented further at level 3. This tells us that they are contained inside item 17 which is 'also' a sub assembly.

When you have multi-level assemblies the quantities of items can get a little confusing. Look closely at item 17. You'll see the Qty Per column is showing a quantity of 2 is required for each assembly. Because item 17 is an assembly it means that everything contained inside it must be multiplied.

The Total columns shows us the quantity of everything that we need to build one mouse and in the bottom right corner you see the total build cost of all of those components.

If you were costing up a large project you can change the BOM Qty and hit the refresh button to instantly see the total quantities and the total cost to build any quantity.

Of course if your assemblies are simple single level then you won't see the Levels column at all.
